Follow Friday

Book Blogger Hop

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee, where bloggers spread the love by following each other. Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer at Crazy-For-Books, where book bloggers can "connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books!"

Question: What makes up your non-human family?
Haha, I don't actually have any dogs/cats. I do have a lot of goldfish though, and they swim around and look pretty in our fishtanks.

Question: Why do you read the genre that you do? What draws you to it?
I read Young Adult novels because, well, I am a young adult. I'm past the stage of reading Children's books and MG novels, but I'm not at the adult stage yet (too much violence and romance, in my opinion), but I am partial to Meg Cabot,  and Orson Scott Card's Ender Saga.

In terms of YA genres, I like reading all sorts. I suppose that I'm drawn to the immersive experience of reading; that through words and imagination, I can be transported to many different worlds.

Follow Hops: "Book Couture" featured!

Book Blogger Hop

Follow Friday is a meme hosted by Parajunkee, where people spread the book love by following around the blogosphere.
And this week, I'm being featured on Feature Friday. Thank you so much, Parajunkee!

Three reasons why Parajunkee is awesome:
1. She has a great site and writes fab reviews that make you want to run out there and buy the book.
2. She's multitalented - a great reviewer and a design goddess. And she has her blog "Anya's Room".
3. She's charitable and kind - she hosts Follow Friday, Feature Friday, and writes the series Blogging 101 to help other bloggers.

Question of the Week (Follow Friday):  (What are some high-end book covers you like?)
This is hard - threre's so many book covers that I love. How about a little gallery?

Question of the Week (Book Blogger Hop): (When you write reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you have read the entire book?)
I actually write them after I've read the book - it gives me time to recover from the mesmerising effects of the book, and dwell on the book as a whole. But I will occasionally take note of some interesting aspects I wish to discuss.

Finding Friends on Friday

Question of the Week (Follow Friday): (YA or Adult reads?)
Definitely Young Adult. I'm not allowed to read any adult novels yet, so I stick with YA.

I think the magic of YA is that people of all ages are able to enjoy reading them. e.g. The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, so I'll still be reading YA when I'm an adult. Because we're all children at heart, aren't we?

Question of the Week (Follow Friday): What is your favorite brick and mortar bookstore?

I don't really have a favourite bookstore - but I love my school library the most. They're constantly stocked with the latest reads, and the best thing is, it's completely free to read the books you love.
The librarian is also super nice.

Question of the Week (Blog Hop): Do you ever judge a book by it's cover?
Sadly...yes! I'll give you 2 examples of where it ended badly:
A rather unfortunate case with Fallen by Lauren Kate, whose cover was stunningly beautiful, but the book less so. Read my review here.
And then, I had the misjudgement not to read Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher because of the bland cover, but to my surprise, the book was absolutely engrossing.

Question of the Week (Follow Friday): Do you use a rating system for your reviews and if so, what is it and why?

I'll be posting it in my sidebar...but here's what it looks like:

5 hearts - AMAZING!! How have I lived without this book before? It is the oxygen to my lungs, the water to my fish, the tea to my cup!

4 hearts - This book was good. Like, really, really good. Like, read it good.

3 hearts - 'Twas a decent book - pretty okay, but no chocolate for it.

2 hearts - Hmmm...ahh...it was...okay.

1 heart - This book was meh. Just wasn't me.

DNF - not even a heart. :( I didn't finish it.
