YA Aussie Challenge 2011

Finally, I've taken the time to join this awesome challenge hosted by Nic @ Irrisistable Reads. There's also an awesome list of Aussie titles on Goodreads.

The Challenge:
Australian participants - Read at least 12 young adult books by Australian authors from 1st January, 2011 to 31st December, 2011.

The Aussie books I want to read: (in no particular order)
  1. Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
  2. Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden
  3. Finnikin of the Rock  by Melina Marchetta
  4. Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley
  5. Good Oil by Laura Buzo - Owned
  6. Does my head look big in this? by Randa Abdel-Fattah
  7. Raw Blue by Kirsty Eagar
  8. Six Impossible Things by Fiona Wood
  9. Everything Beautiful by Simmone Howell
  10. Little Paradise by Gabrielle Wang
  11. Girl Saves Boy by Steph Bowe
  12. Loving Richard Feynman by Penny Tangey

At first, I was thinking, awesome, twelve Aussie books will be easy! But I can see how this will be a challenge now, considering the fact that I only own one of them. There's the public library and school library, of course, but it's going to be hard to get my hands on most of them. Any Aussies out there willing to do a trade with me?

i really looking forward to reading saving francesca. i won a copy off nomes and it looks great.

i read tomorrow when the war began last year and liked it, it's pretty much nomes' favourite book. i love randa abdel-fattah, her books are brilliant and she seems like a great person.

that looks like a really good list.

Thanks for hosting the challenge Nic!
I have 7/8 Aussie YA books (reading 1 of them right now! :D ) that I have not yet read. I was lucky and got a few of these for review, and won one or two of them, as well as bought. I'm so excited about what I'm reading right now. So glad you decided to jump on the wagon. I don't think a trade is going to happen with me--I usually can't bear to trade off my books. Especially the pretty and amazing ones.

12 books doesn't sound like a lot--just read one Aussie book a month! >__< Anyone know is uni libraries keep fiction novels at all? :P

Wow, you're super lucky! One a month will be good...and I'll hopefully be able to find them...somehow.
Aww, that's a shame, but I understand - you do get quite attatched to books.
I'm off to check your list... ;)
i'll trade! email me at beantherereadthat [at] gmail [dot] com and we'll sort something out.

Awesome! I'll check out your blog and email you now. Thanks!
oh. and because it's an aussie challenge i should have said: i'll swap with you! 'swap' is much more aussie than 'trade'.

Haha, you're right, very clever!
Great picks Tina! I already have some of the books but I'll probably borrow most from the library, I'd swap some of the ones I have but they are signed by the authors. Maybe we can work something out if you really want to read some of them.

Aww, thanks, Romy! I'll probably end up borrowing from the library/buying from bookstores. I wouldn't want to get your signed books lost in the postage, or (even more horrifying!) accidentally get them wet/dirty. Thank you so much, though! :)
Good luck on this list!
FYI, if you're at all interested in discovering Childrens/YA books you might not have previously heard of, I just started my fist reading challenge complete with monthly giveaways! :) http://ysprincess.blogspot.com/2011/01/1001-child...
Keep up the great blogging!
